Hurricane Ike - West End of Galveston
Galveston was on the clean side of the eye storm. The Mayor, in an interview, moaned that this was "47% of the tax base". Funny way to put misery. Now they want 100 million to put sand on the beach. Encourage people to do it again? Its a barrier island. (hint: sand washes away). When I was a kid, people did not build many big homes down here. Lessons learned and Lessons lost.
